Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 15, 2026
This policy explains what information Fermatera ("the app", "we") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Fermatera is a retirement planning calculator run by an independent developer. Questions can be sent to medorj@gmail.com.
Information we collect
Google account information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID, email address, name and profile picture
address (the openid, email and profile scopes). We use these only to
create your account, recognize you when you sign in, and show who is signed in. Fermatera requests no
other access to your Google account and does not store Google access or refresh tokens.
Information you enter
Everything the calculator works with is information you choose to enter, including:
- Plans - ages, retirement dates, income, raises, expenses, rates of return, inflation, Social Security and pension figures, and the other assumptions in each saved plan.
- Household members - names (or nicknames) and birth years of the people a plan covers, and, if you enter it, whether a dependent has a disability that affects the dependent's Social Security benefits.
- Accounts and balances - account names and types, contributions, and the balances you record at each progress check-in.
- Goals - goal and checklist items you add.
- Feature requests - what you ask the app to do and your replies about it, which the app's admins see along with your name and email. Once a request is accepted, its title and details (not your name, email or replies) are also copied to the app's private issue tracker on GitHub.
- Preferences - display and layout settings, synced so they follow you between devices.
Fermatera does not connect to your bank or brokerage accounts. We never ask for account numbers, Social Security numbers or financial login credentials, and you shouldn't enter them.
Statements you upload
If you use Fill in from a statement, the PDF or photo you choose is sent to our AI provider (see below) to read the account balances on it, which you then review before anything is applied. The file itself is not stored by Fermatera.
Browser storage and technical data
The app uses a sign-in cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser's local storage for display preferences such as theme and layout. We record when you last used the app, and when you sign in, the browser and operating system you signed in with (from your browser's user agent), keeping sign-in records for one year. Our hosting provider records standard server logs (such as request times, URLs, IP addresses and errors) used to keep the service running and secure. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
How we use your information
Your information is used only to provide the features you see in the app:
- Saving your plans, household, accounts, check-ins and goals so they are there when you return.
- Calculating projections, Social Security estimates, contribution recommendations and plan analysis.
- Providing the optional AI features - a plain-language summary of your plan, answers to questions you ask about it, and reading statements you upload.
- Operating, securing and troubleshooting the service.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, use it to determine credit-worthiness or for lending purposes, or use it to develop, improve or train generalized AI or machine learning models.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Fermatera's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information received from Google (your name, email address and profile picture) is not shared with our AI provider.
People do not read your data except with your explicit permission (for example, when you ask for help with your account), when necessary for security purposes such as investigating abuse, or to comply with applicable law.
How information is shared
We share information only with the service providers needed to run the app's features:
- Microsoft Azure hosts the app and its database in the United States.
- Anthropic provides the optional AI features. When you use one, it receives what that feature needs: your plan's figures and analysis for the summary, those plus your questions for "Ask your plan", and the statement you upload to be read. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models. If you don't use the AI features, nothing is sent to Anthropic.
- Google provides sign-in, as described above.
- GitHub hosts the app's source code and its private issue tracker. When an admin accepts a feature request, its title and details are copied there as an issue so the work on it can be tracked - never your name, email or anything from your plans.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information.
Storage and security
Data is stored in a managed Azure SQL database, which the app reaches with Microsoft Entra ID authentication rather than passwords. Each person's data is kept apart by row-level security in the database, so one account's requests can't read another's. All connections to the app use HTTPS. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Retention and deletion
- You can delete individual plans, household members, accounts, check-ins and goals in the app at any time, and withdraw a feature request while it's waiting for review.
- Delete your account at any time in Settings > Account > Delete account. This immediately and permanently deletes your account and all associated data - plans, household members, accounts, check-ins, goals, feature requests and preferences - and signs you out. You can also email medorj@gmail.com from the address you sign in with, and we will do the same within 30 days. Server logs kept by our hosting provider expire on their own within 30 days. The GitHub issue copied from an accepted feature request isn't linked to you and stays after your account is deleted; email us if you'd like it removed.
- You can remove Fermatera's sign-in access from your Google Account permissions page.
- Otherwise, we keep your data for as long as your account is active.
Children
Fermatera is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information except as household details (such as a name and birth year) entered by a parent or guardian planning for their family.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated in the app.
